Düsseldorf, Helau!
As every year, we celebrated “Altweiber”-Carnival, the traditional carnival day when women take over, with jokes, costumes, and vibrant festivities. As a Düsseldorf-based company, “Altweiber” is a special highlight for us.
At 11:11 a.m., there was a colourful selection of delicious Berliner doughnuts (Berliner doughnuts are fried pastries made from sweet yeast dough with a jam filling). The choices included Monsieur Chocolate, Lady Cassis, Princess, Princes and Marillchen – all garnished with cheerful carnival music. Between laughter and lively conversations, the real Düsseldorf carnival spirit spread.
The traditional custom of cutting ties was particularly fun. Even our CFO Mark’s tie had to suffer and was cut off. This custom creates an exuberant atmosphere and is simply part of “Altweiber”.
Of course, carnival is not just about celebrating today, but also about enjoying the days off. “Rose Monday” in particular is firmly scheduled as a day off for us so that everyone can experience the highlight of the carnival week.
“Altweiber” at Schulz & Sohn is a cheerful start to the carnival season, a moment of togetherness, an opportunity to experience tradition and customs, and a piece of Düsseldorf’s joie de vivre.
