Reading Day at the Sonnenstraße Family Primary School Centre
On 26 November 2025, our managing directors, Klaus, with his partner Birgit, and Mark visited the Sonnenstraße Family Primary School Centre to volunteer on Reading Day. Inspired by the nationwide Reading Day organised by the Reading Foundation, which took place on 21 November 2025, they enthusiastically introduced the children to the joy of reading.
Three classes, three worlds of stories
Our three volunteers read aloud in different mixed-age learning groups, which are organised according to the Montessori principle. In these groups, children in grades 1 to 4 learn together – an approach that promotes independence, creativity and individual development.
- Klaus visited the Polar Bear class
- Birgit read in the Jaguar class
- Mark was a guest in the Fox class
They read from two lovingly selected children’s books:
- ‘Minus Drei wünscht sich ein Haustier’ (Minus Three Wants a Pet) by Ute Krause
- ‘Pippilothek??? Eine Bibliothek wirkt Wunder’ (Pippilothek??? A Library Works Wonders) by Lorenz Pauli
The children listened attentively, asked numerous questions, and became fully immersed in the stories. 45 minutes full of amazement, laughter and shared discoveries.
Warm gestures & shared enjoyment
To show their gratitude, the children presented homemade cards and small gifts, a touching gesture that underscored the special nature of the day.
Afterwards, the school’s cooking class invited everyone to share a meal. In addition to small treats, there were also delicious finger foods from Jordan, which were met with enthusiasm and brought the event to a cheerful close.
Commitment that makes a difference
The visit proved once again the impact that an hour of reading and listening together can have. As a long-standing partner, Schulz & Sohn supports the Sonnenstraße Family Primary School Centre in many ways – through materials, projects, events and personal involvement.
Our goal is to create spaces for children where they can learn with curiosity, discover their own abilities and grow independently.
Sincere thanks to Klaus, Birgit, and Mark for their valuable commitment!
